Description:

Municipalities have a legal and operational duty to properly document, classify, and retain records—not just for transparency and efficiency but to comply with evolving privacy laws. The Nova Scotia Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner recently reminded us that even records created or shared through personal email and messaging apps may be subject to FOIPOP and the MGA.

This workshop will walk you through the steps of implementing a robust records management program using the newly updated AMA Records Manual. You’ll gain practical knowledge on classification, retention, storage, and final disposition of municipal records

Leading Change at Work: Addressing Domestic Violence Workshop

Description:

This interactive half-day session is designed for all employees and employers and begins with the foundational knowledge needed to recognize, respond to, and refer in situations related to domestic and intimate partner violence in the workplace. Grounded in trauma-informed, strengths-based practices, the session then builds on these basics to explore more complex dynamics, including coercive control, emotional and financial abuse, and how these may impact safety, performance, and well-being at work. 

Participants will also reflect on the role of workplace culture in either enabling or disrupting cycles of harm, and leave with tools to help foster safer, more equitable environments.

Key Training Objectives Include: 

  • Learn to recognize the signs and impacts of IPV/DV in the workplace, including lesser-known forms such as coercive control.
  • Gain practical strategies for responding safely and supportively to colleagues.
  • Understand when and how to refer or report concerns appropriately.
  • Explore how the workplace can act as a protective factor against IPV/DV.
  • Reflect on individual and collective roles in creating a culture of safety, accountability, and support.
