Build your confidence in interpreting financial information and using it to support municipal planning and decision-making. This practical course examines:
- The legislative and accounting framework for municipal finance
- Fund accounting and the municipal financial cycle
- Municipal financial statements
- Variance analysis and performance indicators
- Long-term financial planning
- Operating and capital budgets
- Year-end financial reporting
The course includes two facilitated virtual sessions, municipal examples, group activities, independent learning and an electronic participant workbook. Participants must complete both parts to receive a certificate of completion.

Participants who successfully complete both modules are eligible to receive advanced standing in Dalhousie University’s Certificate in Local Government Finance. Together, the two AMANS modules are recognized as equivalent to OLCD-LGOV0037 Municipal Finance, one of the certificate’s three required courses.
