Accessibility Plans and Actions Workshop

The Accessibility Directorate in collaboration with AMANS invite you to a Webinar designed to inform Municipal Accessibility Leads and other staff about Accessibility Plans and actions, and the different ways to approach meeting the obligations of prescribed public sector bodies as identified in the Accessibility Act.  This webinar is geared specifically to municipalities and will take place on September 25, 9:00am -10:00am. The session will be 1.0 hours long, leaving room for questions and discussion among participants.

The Webinar will feature two presenters:

Sarah Kucharski, Municipality of the District of Lunenburg Communications Officer and Joint Accessibility Committee Team Lead

Sarah has shown tremendous leadership as the Accessibility Lead for a Joint Working Group whose partnering municipalities include MODL, Town of Bridgewater, Town of Mahone Bay, Town of Lunenburg, and the District of Chester. This joint committee has taken the approach of developing a united framework and universal standards, with individual operational plans. Sarah will share her experience in forming and leading this joint committee, and the work they have accomplished so far.

Rachel Bedingfield, Director of Parks and Recreation in Kentville and Kentville Accessibility Lead

Rachel has led the accessibility work in the Town of Kentville, assembling their Advisory Committee and showing exemplary leadership in the Town’s approach of working to meet the obligations identified in the Accessibility Act. She will share her experience in recruiting membership for their Accessibility Advisory Committee, and other successes.

Supporting Meetings Webinar Series

So much time is spent in meetings, it is critical to ensure that they are well-organized, planned, and beneficial to the participants. This is why AMANS is hosting a webinar series on supporting meetings. Whether a Council meeting or Committee meeting, the preparation can be challenging and complex and doesn’t end once the meeting is over. Meeting preparation involves preparing agendas, reports and briefing notes, advising on meeting procedures, producing minutes, and more. This workshop will provide those who support meetings as part of their job with tools and ideas to organize meetings in a municipal setting.

Part I

September 30 at 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM

Preparing agendas for open and closed meetings

  • Crafting resolutions and decision-making options
  • Advising on meeting procedures, motions, amendments, etc.
  • Clarifying and establishing respect for support staff's roles
  • Take away tools for participants

Part II

October 7 at 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM

What to know when taking minutes – helpful hints.

  • Minute content

  • Minutes approval process and its impacts
  • Impacts of FOI and privacy issues on minutes and agendas
