Please note that if a question or notice is posted on the list serve to which you want to reply, hitting "reply" or "respond to sender" will send your reply out to the entire List Serve. This is totally acceptable if the information contained in your reply is something that you want to share with the entire group, but if you want to respond to only the individual who posted the question or notice. do not hit reply, but start a new e-mail to that individual alone.
In the event that you set up an "auto reply" on your e-mail account (such as when you will be out of the office), either unsubscribe from the list serve or set up your auto response to not include the list serve. If you don't, every time a notice is posted to the list serve by another member your "out of office reply" will go to everyone.
Please note that the Maritime List Serve is not to be used for advertising services or products. Municipal advertisements such as municipal employment searches are permitted. We do, however, encourage the sharing of information such as professional development opportunities.
Please do not use the list serve for telling jokes or for political gain. Try to keep your posts within the scope of its intended use which is to share information relating to municipal government.

Next Generation Report
This project is an example of the Association looking towards the future and attempting to be proactive. Research points to the fact that there will soon be a labour shortage which will inevitably impact local government. Some of you are already. The Board of Directors felt that it was important to explore and develop strategies that could be used to effectively identify, attract and recruit the next generation of local government managers. The AMA with the assistance of SNSMR and the UNSM has therefore developed a report entitled "Reality Check: Do You Know Where Your People Are? Attracting the Next Generation of Municipal Government Managers". This document is the first step, albeit, a big step, in this project.
